Mariah - Queen of US and only one of many singers in Europe

I think that no one doubts that Mariah is the most succesful artist in US according to the number ones, even though in general she sell less than Madonna or Barbra Steisand (according to last year's statistic). Almost of of her releases are very succesful in US. But it is not so when we look globaly. Mariah is not that popular in Europe. She had many Top 10 hits in Europe and just a few number ones. When we compare it with Madonna's 12 number one hits in UK, Mariah's achievements there are very average.
What do you think is the reason of it?
Is it just the kind of music she makes?
Maybe that's the question of taste?

In most countries Evita was reasleased as a double CD (full movie soundtrack) as well as single CD, which does not change anything.

The sales figures I have written are real (based on Wikipedia and Warner official figures) , apart from yours which are just simply fiction.

I think both singers are extremely successful in their own rite. People like to compare the two artists often, but they appeal to different audiences. I view Madonna as a great pop star with extraordinary stage shows. I see Mariah as a great singer with firm ties to R&B and hip-hop soul. Apples and oranges, which can't be fairly compared.

In terms of sales, both artists have achieved extreme commercial success. To debate which one has sold more is silly because there isn't firm data to support either argument. Face it, both Madonna and Mariah fans exaggerate sales figures to support their case.

Both Madonna and Mariah last releases were successful. Madonna on a global level and Mariah on a national level. Albums sales are probably about the same if you averaged everything out. Let's leave it at that.
